Scott Jenkin

Kind, considerate, and genuine describe Scott Jenkin as a coach and staff member at Branford High School.

A 1980 graduate of BHS, Scott participated in football and track. On the gridiron, he started on the offensive and defensive lines for three seasons, first for coach Joe Farina and then as a senior for Rich Cavanaugh. In the spring, he was a letter winner throwing the shot and disc for Joe Fazzino. After high school, Scott studied physical education for three years at Southern Connecticut State University.

In 1983, Scott was hired to coach freshman football under Doug Morrell. This was the beginning of his stellar coaching career. As a football coach, he has served in a variety of capacities. For sixteen years, Scott developed and guided the freshman football program. Moving up to the varsity level, he has worked with the offensive lineman and he had a tremendous impact in one of the greatest victories in the team’s history.

On December 3, 2005, Branford defeated East Lyme 14-7 for the Class MM State Championship at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven. On that brisk day, the offensive line played superbly allowing the Hornets to rush for two hundred and forty yards and to control the tempo of the game. Currently, he is the offensive coordinator running the spread offense on Mike Tracy’s staff.

Scott’s football coaching resume would not be complete without mentioning the thirteen years he spent as a head coach in the town’s youth program. In 1992, his team won the Shoreline League Youth Division championship by defeating Amity and in 1995 they captured the Shoreline League Senior Division championship by besting arch rival East Haven.

For the past fifteen years, Scott has also been the co-head coach of the boy’s track and field program. During that time span, his teams compiled a 133-66-2 record and they have captured six divisional championships. The Hornets were the SCC Conference runner up in 2005, State Class MM Champions in 2005, and SCC Conference Champions in 2008. Well thought of in the coaching community, he was named the New Haven Register Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2005 and 2008 seasons.

Perhaps, Scott’s greatest strength is his ability to interact and to respect all segments of the student body at Branford High School. As In School Suspension advisor since 1996, he has made positive and lasting impressions with students of all different backgrounds and interests. Tonight’s inductee enjoys spending time with his niece, a great niece, and five nephews. Scott currently resides in East Haven.
